The Unfathomable Teaching of an Authorized Idiot
I'm an authorized Buddhist teacher with an unfathomable completely fake dharma. It's completely fake. My book deriding my guru lays him out as a total idiot who is nonetheless enlightened and taught me the whole path with total bullshit. My dharma name is literally Yiddish.
On chulen: In my teachings, anything psychoactive or even blessing-active can be considered a chulen. When I read Mipham's chulen manual I was like — there's nothing in here except 4 toxic things and folk substances. Each "magical" ingredient is commonplace poison. It literally doesn't matter. What matters is buddhavacana.
On authorization: My guru's instruction was: wake up 4 hours before work and do every practice you like. Go to work and practice in secret. Go home and practice. Go to bed and practice. Dream and practice. When dreams stop, practice dreamlessly. When dreamless sleep stops, practice. Then he said "there are levels of 24/7, kid." Then he taught me the higher empowered versions and made me a teacher. My samayas were lifted. That's the level of authorization I'm operating at.
On retreat: My guru's instruction was that retreat hut is where you are and not to have money.
"If your guru said not to have money why do you run a lot of businesses?"
BECAUSE the point of businesses is to create welfare apparati for humans. In Buddhism you could say this is the umbrella principle. The White Umbrella is exactly the view of the Buddha from the Buddha's experience of being the Buddha realizing Enlightened Activity. Ok?
The instruction was not to have money. That's different than circulating it. Having no money available is different than having no money. You can have no money because you have assets. You can have no money because it's all invested. You can have no money because you are broke — but that's not conducive to practice for lay people. The instruction is about flow, not poverty. Keep it moving. The business IS the circulation. The welfare IS the practice.
Matter of fact Buddha never said to be broke. Vimalakirti could be said to be the Buddha's single true best student ever, because he is wiser than even Manjushri even in Mahayana scripture. So, if Vimalakirti was exactly the best student because he was so realized and benefitted so many beings because he was a merchant and his transactions touched many lives, then having no money is surely stupid and adharmic. Matter of fact not just in Mahayana — which I think is wider in scope or "greater," which is why I am a practitioner of it — but also in Sutrayana, you see that the best lay practitioners are the ones with enough money to change the world.
